Margrethe Vestager
European Commissioner for Competition, European Commission

Margrethe Vestager is European commissioner for competition. She previously served in the Danish government as minister for economic affairs and the interior from 2011 until 2014, and minister for education from 1998 to 2001. She was also president of the Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN) Council during the Danish E.U. Presidency in 2012.

Ms. Vestager was leader of the Danish Social Liberal Party from 2007 to 2014, and worked for the Danish Ministry of Finance from 1993 to 1995.

Ms. Vestager holds an M.Sc. in economics from the University of Copenhagen.
